5 Effective Stategies To Help You Get the Most Out of Your Dry January

CONGRATULATIONS! You signed up for a Dry January challenge.

Check out these 5 strategies to help you get the most out of your commitment and stick to it!

Preparation is key! Stock your kitchen with your favorite non-alcoholic beverages.

My current favorite NA beverage is hiyo. They come in a variety and single flavor 12 packs. I think the Blackberry Lemon and the Watermelon Lime are the best. These 12 oz cans are "mindful social tonics crafted with organic adaptogens, natural nootropics, and functional botanicals to elevate your mood and empower you to be truly happy in your own."

Try them and let me know what you think!

Pick up some sober literature.

Reading just a few pages a day will help keep you honest and committed to your challenge. Plus, it will be a good distraction at wine o'clock or after dinner.

The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober by Catherine Gray was the book that did it for me. Her story is raw and real, and unfortunately, I saw myself in some of her recounted memories. Other excellent reads are The Naked Mind by Annie Grace and Quit Like a Woman by Holly Whitaker.

Move your body!

This doesn't have to be anything extreme. Go gentle on yourself in the exercise department. You're already making a huge shift by ditching the booze. No need to spike your cortisol levels with extreme exercise. Go for a walk. Do some yoga. It would be even better if you could walk in the early evening when you will probably have the urge to drink.

Get an accountability partner.

If you aren't doing Dry January with a group, find a buddy you can reach out to at the very least. In fact, the more people you tell you are going dry for the month, the more people there will be to cheer you on. There is strength in numbers with this challenge, for sure. Celebrate your goal before you reach it by talking about it with others.

Write it down!

Without the numbing effects of alcohol, you will likely be confronted with emotions you typically avoid. Spend some time with these feelings. Write about them. See if you can go deeper and discover the thought that is creating the emotion.

Now that you've learned my five tips, I'd love to know more about you!
